"Believers in democracy—true believers—know that open debate and the unlimited exchange of ideas are necessary to preserve freedom!"

Thomas banged his gavel repeatedly in an attempt to drown out Guy's shouted words.

"The best test of truth is its ability to stand up to competition in the marketplace of human endeavor!"

Still banging his gavel, Thomas demanded, “Silence that man!"

The spectators buzzed in excitement until finally the continued banging of the chairman's gavel quieted the room.

“If there are any more reactions to these proceedings, I will have the room cleared and continue the hearing behind closed doors,” Thomas warned.

Anxious to see the remaining accused Hollywood personalities wriggle out of their charges, the spectators grew quiet.
